PORTLAND HOTEL AND CONVENTION LEADERS
TAKE STEP TO HELP URBAN CHURCH
DESTROYED BY FIRE
Portland, February 7, 2007

Chris Erickson, General Manager of the Heathman Hotel along with Jeff Miller, President of the Portland Oregon Visitors Association are among the many residents and businesses that have stepped forward to financially assist Pastor A. Wayne Johnson on the recent total loss of Morning Star Church which was consumed by fire a few days ago.
Joining Erickson and Miller in boosting the initial contributions was Safeway Food and Drug Stores and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

The event which was organized by Roy Jay, President of the African American Chamber of Commerce and newly elected national chairman of the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners also included a cash contribution from the Chamber.

Johnson was reduced to tears as reporters and television cameras filmed the event outside the five star Heathman Hotel in downtown Portland as contributors handed him checks on behalf of their respective companies and organizations.

Erickson said that his hotel owners happened to be in town and saw a previous television news story about Pastor Johnsons misfortune and wanted to step to the plate to assist in some way, whether they had insurance or not. I knew if anyone could put us on the fast track to get us to Pastor Johnson, it had to be Roy Jay and the African American Chamber, says Erickson.

Pastor Johnson indicated that a special fund has been established at Wells Fargo under the name of Morning Star Church Reconstruction Fund. Individuals and businesses may make their contributions direct at any branch.

Jay said that the $15,000 contribution, raised in less than 4 hours, will help with the insurance deductible or other immediate expenses that Johnsons church will be facing.
