Roy Jay Promotes Small Business Owner For Spirit Of Portland Award

Portland, OR        November 10, 2010

It’s one of the highest awards given to a citizen or organization by the City of Portland. Its the Spirit of Portland Award which was bestowed upon Brian Markham of Innovative Contractors on November 8 to packed house at the Double Tree Lloyd Center Hotel.

Markham was recognized for his community participation efforts in helping to build transitional housing for some homeless people in Northeast Portland.  Markham’s company was contracted through Roy Jay’s nonprofit organization in an effort to assist Pastor Mary Overstreet-Smith.  Markham’s company went the extra mile by performing the entire construction for under $100,000, securing fixtures and appliances form suppliers for little or no cost.

Oregon Tradeswomen provided supervised apprentices to also assist.  Portland City Commissioner, Randy Leonard presented the award to Markham as his family sat in audience beaming with pride. Leonard explained to the audience that he was facing the challenge of assisting Pastor Smith with a limited amount of money. Whenever I have a dilemma, I know that there is one person that I can call on and it’s Roy Jay… he coordinated everything and was even able to get various permit fees waived.
