Roy Jay Receives ‘Newsmaker Of The Year’ 2006

In a packed house at the Governor Hotel, the who’s who in broadcast and print media gathered for their annual event presented by the Royal Rosarians and other leading businesses. The primary purposes were to recognize various individuals whom they feel were in the category of Newsmaker of the Year for 2005.

Portland, Oregon native, Roy Jay was one of the seven individuals recognized for not only his business involvement, but also his efforts in spearheading the highly successful Project Clean Slate which has assisted nearly 3,000 individuals to date in regain driving license priviledeges and expunge minor criminal convictions. Jay was recently also featured in the December 2005 edition of Portland Monthly as one of the Top 25 people that helped shaped the City in 2005.

Jay heads the highly influential African American Chamber of Commerce, Alliance of Minority Chambers and is also President of the Oregon Convention & Visitor Services Network and several other private business ventures.

The brainchild behind Project Clean Slate, his concept has taken root in other cities including California. Jay’s nomination was submitted to the Royal Rosarians by the Portland Observer newspaper.

Jay will also be receiving the APEX national award in May at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for his achievements and recognition in the convention and tourism industry.
